Marketing Monday

This week’s Marketing Monday unwraps some unexpected creativity, an utter revolt to a new rebrand, reflections on what makes a dream project (and where you’re not likely to find it), and how a client’s budget gets blown to smithereens. Okay, I added those last two words to lure you in and have fun.

I swear it’s the little things when it comes to great marketing. Case in point, these cool wrappers for Ricola cough drops. It made me wonder, ‘Why haven’t I seen anything this creative from over-the-counter drug companies or candy makers before?’

In the ad business, everything is subjective. I was still surprised by the outspoken and visceral response to this re-brand. Check out Instagram’s New Logo Is a Travesty. Can We Change It Back? Please?

It’s hard to get the right amount of work. It seems like we’re always either too busy or too slow. But I think we can all agree with this Freelancer’s Union’s post: How to make every project a dream project: An interview with Sean McCabe. Yes, they nailed this one.

LinkedIn’s post: Why Freelancers Should RUN From Upwork – And Where You Should Go! I must admit, I did recently look into Upwork. There’s something about these platforms that just doesn’t feel right. I guess I’d prefer to find my work through referrals or under my own steam. Let me know if you’ve had a good experience with this company or any other freelance platform.

What is the most common reason a client’s budget gets blown? Take this poll from Polar Polls. Um, how about all of the above? See if these look familiar to you. Maybe they should start a support group.

It’s Monday. But on the bright side, probably no one hates your recent logo as much as Instagram’s. There’s a creative opportunity everywhere if you look for it and more work, too. So let’s go find it. Have a great week everyone. And if you need any help, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Drop me a line at me@ameliaostroff.com.
